On the morning of April 1, 2025, a major gas pipeline explosion occurred at Jalan Putra Harmoni, Putra Heights, Subang Jaya, sending towering flames into the sky and prompting widespread panic among residents. The blaze, believed to have been caused by a 500-meter gas pipeline leak, was visible from several kilometers away.
Emergency services received the call at 8:23am, with firefighting units from across Selangor quickly deployed. By midday, over 100 victims were affected and dozens of homes damaged. Temporary relief centers were set up at nearby mosques and temples, and several victims were hospitalized for burns and breathing difficulties.
Authorities, including the Selangor Fire Department, Petronas Gas Bhd, and Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), responded swiftly by sealing off affected areas, restoring power supply, and initiating air quality monitoring. Major expressways were temporarily closed, but air travel remained unaffected.
As of 2:00pm, the fire was reported to be under control, with full damage assessments and recovery efforts underway. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of strict safety standards in utility infrastructure management.
